Mind Over Matter

I've changed the name of my blog spot because I thought long and hard of the the messages i want to send, the things I'm trying to create, and the brand I'm trying to start. I'm not necessarily going to be a entrepreneur but I know writing has always been something dear to me. I love touching people with my words, giving healthy advice, and learning from my endeavors and teaching others from my mistakes. One day i will publish on a professional level and spread my words too the world. Though i know writing is a gift of mine i don't want to solely rely on that, therefore I'm not pursing a degree in it.

I've chosen this name because life has always been about Mind Over Matter. Everything you do is effected by how you think about it. Its just like the saying about the cup being half way full or half empty. Its about getting back up when you fall, not giving up even when everything tells you to do so. That's the perspective I live by from this day forward.

So, as often as i can i will be posting about the many controversial topics that arise, or i find through Life, T.V. or facebook post(you know ppl post their lives up there.) Some post will be serious, some will be humorous, all with good intention!!

See you guys soon with my next post.... "How to tell if SHE'S a BIRD".

Def Poetry: Black Ice- "Imagine" (Official Video)

This poem is very truthful. There is a lot of things that we can do as a people to help our youth be better, If we became more involved and concerned. Yes, the government should help our community more, but we cant depend on them sole-fully to help our own people. We should put forth the most effort. We need to strengthen the unity in our communities.

Special Moment

My hand glides over the spot
Still warm from your body
The events that just occurred
Keeps replaying in my head
Your body on top of mine
And the word I love u escapin my mouth
Knowin the words had came to soon
But still savoring the moment I repeat it,
increasing not just my hormones
But my feelings for you
Knowin deep down I don't want u sharing
A moment like this wit any other girl
Fillin me wit sweet thrust from your
Swollen member... ruff but gentle
I grip da sheets n swallow my moans
Hiding how much your pleasuring me
Wishin u wud never cum
So we can spend eternity as one
Sharing each others world
Fittin like a puzzle I already yearn 4 more
Thinkin of next time
Wen we explore each other.. Is it really over?...
My hand glides over dat spot again
Only for it to be cold
Finalizing the end of that special moment.

Question?

How do you stay neutral in a war in your own "home"? A question hard to answer, especially when you come from a country that glorifies wars and a community that is surrounded by violence.

Black Ice - The Ugly Show

Even though sometimes Black people do tend blame society when it's not the issue, the oppresion Black people have been through is a factor on the present day state of our people.

ParentHood - The absent parent

This Picture is refreshing to the heart. Its a picture of a loving father and his baby daughter. It's great to know that there are still fathers in this world that fully take responsibility of their children. My son's father is in jail, and losing out on the daily pleasures of being a parent. He is missing the essence of being able to see your child grow inch by inch, smarter, and in to their own person. During their growth there are characteristics that they are gaining and losing. Those little surprises you get when your child does something new, can make you smile with pride and he is missing those unforgettable moments. He is missing things that he will never happen again. You can't turn back the hands of time. That's why it is pertinent to have ,not only a great relationship before you have a child, but great knowledge of the person prior to having children with them. Although, in certain experiences there have been parents who were fantastic, while they were still involved with the other parent. However, soon as the relationship ended, they became an absent parent. Additionally, there are many other reasons why a parent is voluntarily absent, such as my experience.

I was a young mother when I had my son. I knew the responsibilities that were bestowed upon me once I saw the results of my pregnancy test. I decided that I would take on those responsibilities and keep my baby, although I was only 16. I didn't imagine that I could be in this predicament. I didn't think one day my son's father would be sentenced to 5 years in prison, and I would be raising my son alone. However, these circumstances didn't prevent me from pursing my goals.

I'm in college, I work, I have my own apartment, and my son is doing wonderful in school. I understood that it was pertinent to my son's future to strive for success. I have to lead by example and set up a great foundation for my son. I want to give him a better life then I had. I never want him to go through the endeavors i went through as a child. I was fortunate to be blessed with the brain and mentality that I have. Most people who go through the childhood that I went through are not standing where I am in life. So I am very grateful of the man upstairs. I know that there is a higher being that has helped me endure all the things that I have, and gives me strength to continue my journey.

I know that parenthood can be challenging, however I encourage all parents to be involved in their children's lives. Children need their parents, both of them. Cherish your children and never do anything that may jeopardize missing a moment of their precious lives.

P.S. Isn't my niece gorgeous???

SENSELESS VIOLENCE

Originally Written in 2011

Recently in my old neighborhood, a young life perished due to senseless violence. I don’t know why it happened, but I know that no reason is great enough for someone’s life to be cut short. Too many young men in this younger generation feel like they have something to prove, However what can proving your self get you after everything is said and done? The same people that you are trying to prove yourself to, will be the first people that will get you in to a situation that you will regret later. I will never understand how can you take away a person's life, when they can never get it back? I stated in one of my poems, “Death is a purchase that does not come with a receipt, there are no return policies, no fair exchange and no way to rearrange or change the sequence of events after death. There is no way to give someone back their final breath” (“Abuse”). I don’t believe there is any reason or excuse great enough to end someone’s life. No reason! And for those wondering do I believe in the death penalty? No I do not. If citizens are put to death for taking someone’s life, then why shouldn’t a law enforcer be put to death for taking that persons life. It should not be right for anyone to kill anyone. Death is an irrevocable decision.

Besides, who came up with this unwritten “Hood” rule that all altercations, misunderstandings, and problems had to be settled with death? When did a fair fight become foolish and taking someone’s life become sensible? The answer is NEVER. Taking someone’s life due to a misunderstanding is senseless. Most Problems, Issues, Beef, etc start by a verbal disagreement. Censorship was banished a very long time ago, why should people have to be concerned about voicing their opinions? Why should people be cautious of who to speak to and how to speak to them? Agreeing to Disagree doesn't hurt any one. Why are people harming each other over words? Whatever happen to “sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me”?

I find myself questioning where does the problem begin? Who’s the blame? Don’t get me wrong, I believe in personal responsibility but, everything has a start. Is there violence in the home, is it the community that molds the young minds, is it the media? That question may never have a correct answer.

The thing that upsets me most, is that a lot of this violence happens in urban communities. After years of activist fighting and dying for black people to live a better life, we’ve decided to kill ourselves. They supply us with the ammunition and we use it. We find reasons to kill our own brothers and sisters, then get mad when other races kill us too. I'm not disregarding the protest and outcry against police brutality, because it is definitely warranted. I'm stating that we need to stop the violence in our communities and against our own people. We need to become untied to be able to tackle all the issues that plague our communities.

We have to STOP THE SENSELESS VIOLENCE. Change starts with us, the people. Look how fast rumors spread on Facebook and twitter. Imagine how fast we can start a stop the violence movement??? We are the future and we can shape it if we work together.  My condolences goes out to the family of the victim. RIP Dykeem.

A Poem that speaks of violence please watch it. It's very intense.

Truth Be Told: Threesome or Train?

Why is it that if a man has sex with 2 women its called a threesome, but if a woman has sex with 2 men its called a train? Could it be because society has lead us to believe that there is something wrong with women who are comfortable with their sexuality? Or maybe because most of society believes that women who do the same thing as men “aren’t respecting themselves?” The answer is all of the above. No matter how much times have changed since the 19th century, it just isn’t sociably acceptable for a women to have sex with multiple men or even date multiple men at once.

Let me start off by saying that I don’t indulge in sex with multiple people but I do not judge women who do. I believe the reaction to one situation should be the same for both sex. If a women having sex with multiple guys is nasty, then a man having sex with multiple women should be just as nasty. It is unequal for a man to be able to do a whatever they want sexually because society deems it as the norm. When asked, many people will respond with "that's just how it is." If I could sucker punch someone for every time I have heard “that’s just how it is“, I would be the creator of sock’em bopper toys (Random: remember that toy?!). Even IF a guy is called a hoe for his sexual conduct, it still doesn't carry the same stigma. A man would be looked at as normal, or a player, if he claimed to have had sex with every girl in the neighborhood.

Double standards are another form of discrimination. Why should a women get degraded for something that a man will be commended for?

Besides, there were many things in the past that women were told we shouldn’t do, like go to school, work, or vote, because that was for the man to do. Many will say I am going to the extreme giving that example but challenge yourself to think about it. Before “The Women’s Right to Suffrage Movement” women were not allowed to vote. Men used excuses like “ it did not seem fitting that women should come down into the arena of politics and engage generally in public affairs. That women had their own honorable position in life, that that position had been accorded to them by nature, and that their proper sphere was the home” (Clare, 2010). That’s the same excuse they are using in this day and age for females who enjoy having sex just as much as males. They say “women aren’t fit to indulge in sexual acts like men. Its just not right for women to conduct themselves in such a fashion.”

A lot of society still believe that women are unequal and should be house wives. We still use quotes that express this today. For example, the quote “cant turn a hoe into a house wife,” is an insinuation that a women’s goal should be to become a HOUSE wife. Why cant the quote be “Cant turn a hoe in to a companion, spouse, or simply a wife?” And we never focus on men. The quote will never be “cant turn a hoe into a husband.” There should be quotes to encourage men to be better indiviuals, who have the potential to be husbands. Society as a whole are reluctant accepters of change.

Many women want to be more sexually active but are afraid to because they don’t want to be labeled or regarded in a disrespectful manner. Many women are uncomfortable with themselves for even feeling like they have a yearning for sex often. Even I felt compelled to share, earlier in this post, that I don’t indulge in promiscuous sex, because I know that people are going to judge me for even expressing my thoughts on this controversial topic.

Lets be very clear! I AM NOT telling women that they should go sleep with every man and start a “Right to Women Sexing Movement”, I’m saying that you should not judge women who decide they want to have sexual relations with who they want, whenever they want, because they have the RIGHT to, WITHOUT being judged.

Please leave your thoughts below, I would love to hear them. BUT before you comment and say because “that’s how momma raised me,” really think about what I am trying to say and give your OWN personal opinion. Think outside the box, challenge the social norms, be an INDIVIDUAL. Let me put it in to today terms, "Be a BOSS of your own thoughts."

The one situation you don’t want to explain to your toddler.

“Mommy, Where’s my daddy?” That question would be easy for a child with a father who lives in the same home, or even in the same city, but for me that question made me fumble over thoughts in my head. How to simplify the vast answers in to toddler terms; an explanation that would allow a 2 year old to understand and be satisfied with an answer?
This question has had the same effect on many mothers in my community. Seems to be the story of dozens of women in all urban areas alike. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of women in all types of nationalities that are plagued with the missing daddy virus but stereotypes and movies has our minds automatically picturing a black family when you hear “She’s a single mother, the fathers in jail”.
My son’s father was arrested when my son was 2. My son and his father was really close and when his father was arrested there was a big difference in his character. I tried to explain to him as easy as I could that his dad was being bad and that Dad was going to be in time out for a while. Which I thought would be understandable until my son started being bad. He said “ I want to go to jail so I can be with daddy” After that I knew I had to think of a different approach to explaining where his daddy was. I didn’t want my son to think going to jail was ever okay.
Until his dad was transferred up state I tried to keep up with weekly visits to Rikers Island. With being a full time student in college and a full time employee that extra obligation was draining at times. Even though dad was in jail I still wanted them to keep the bond that they had. There is nothing like that father and son bond, it’s a beautiful thing. I hated to see that my son was getting accustom to the routines of the visit. Which includes striping and shaking out articles of clothing. Of course a toddler wouldn’t understand how degrading all that really feels so he would mechanically do it all with a smile. Happy that he remembered exactly what to do. As if knowing was a good thing but it wasn’t. I would never tell him that though. Just knowing that my son was happy to see his dad was good enough for me so I would smile back.
Now that my son is about to be 4. He understands the situation a little more adequately now. He understands that Daddy is being punished for hurting someone and that hurting people is very bad thing. He really misses his dad now that he was recently transferred upstate, but the 8 hour bus rides are annoying and makes visiting a once and a blue moon thing. Not to mention the 40 ticket for children and 50 dollar ticket for adults. Every step of the way is definitely a learning experience for both my son and I, but I have to do my best to stay focused on what ever is best for my son!

QUESTION FOR MY READERS: HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT EXPLAINING TO YOUR TODDLER THAT DADDY IS IN JAIL(DOING A 5 YEAR BID)?

Drowning (Poetry)

My heart leaks below me creating a pool of my own feelings and with a SPLASH, I'm sinking, life stroking, thinking, How can i swim my way back to top so I can take that sweet breath of simplicity. I promised myself I would do things differently. To live a life without the heart taking, promise making, and the wage staking. I refuse to drown again in love left to soak in misery and a pool of my own blood. I cant take that risk of optimistically reattaching myself to that erotic anchor. That so wistfully drags me to the pit of the beast, who feasts, on my heart opening up every part, flooding me with the need for all that touchy feely stuff, where i give my all and its never enough. Everything about my heart is so tough. My mind never wins, its like the oxygen in my brain gets thin cause the shits always losing time and time again. So I drown once more gasping and losing everything I've fought for. With every gulp of fluid my single life dies and love is born. I tried to be strong but i was taken by storm. And scared shit less about what this might become but i guess i wont know until the damage is done. When it comes to that crazy love everyone gets a turn I guess I had to face the 3 L's; Live, Love, and Learn.

Quicksand (Poetry)

I never imagined that like quick sand I would sink and be engulfed by love so swiftly. Shocking my whole being, blood rushing through my veins, Pumping my heart at a speed only hearts can communicate. Our beats unite and makes songs entwined with melodies that fulfill souls, enlighten minds, and create destiny. This song withstands any hit lists because these instruments never stop playing. The beats change but the passion persists and every other music ceases to exist. My gazes soaks you up like eye drops, moisturizing my harmonica, your smile sends lyrics to my heart beckoning it to continue the everlasting tune. Your very being inspires my heart because this is the best song ever written. If our hearts should ever stop the duet, know that your musical note has been seared in to my heart. Never to be forgotten.
